Lullaby for Mother

Review by Dan Townsend

I attended the performance of “LULLABY FOR MOTHER” at the Soar Theatre in Merthyr Tydfil on October 6th, and it was a captivating experience. This multimedia dance piece, an extension of the earlier Gravida Project, funded by ACW in 2018, created a unique atmosphere of immersion and introspection.

The Gravida Collective did an exceptional job in providing a space where the audience could delve into their inner thoughts and emotions. The performance artfully wove together life stories, drawing from the deepest threads of human experience across centuries.

One aspect that stood out was the open-ended nature of the performance, allowing for a wide range of interpretations. After the show, discussing and sharing our thoughts with other attendees was a highlight, as each person seemed to have a different perspective on the narrative.

The incorporation of drawing, instrumental music, physical performance, and video enhanced the depth of the experience. The visuals were stunning, and the performance was thought-provoking, leaving the audience with much to contemplate. “LULLABY FOR MOTHER” was not just a dance performance; it was an immersive journey into the complexities of human existence.
